Judge won't expedite lawsuit over special session

Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) - A Fairbanks Judge denied expedited consideration of the lawsuit that seeks to force Alaska State legislators in Juneau to convene a special session in Wasilla.

The Anchorage Daily News reported the lawsuit targets House Speaker Bryce Edgmon and Senate President Cathy Giessel.

Without the expedited consideration it is doubtful the lawsuit can be heard before the end of the special session.

Former legislator Al Vezey filed the lawsuit last Wednesday.

The legislature failed to vote to override the Governor's budget vetoes as they didn't have enough lawmakers at the session in Juneau.

The Juneau contingent this week intends to hold meetings in Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley and Fairbanks on House Bill 2001.  It would pay out a $1,600 Permanent Fund dividend this year.
