Juneau School District Alert: School ending early today

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Due to continued snow and road conditions in the Juneau area, schools will let students out one hour early today.

    Elementary schools will release students at 1:30 pm to give buses and families extra time to travel home.

    Middle schools and optional programs will get out at 2:00 pm and high schools will release students at 2:45 pm.

    Middle school activities and activity buses are canceled today.

    Leap, JAMM and RALLY programs are closed.

    Afternoon PreK programs are closed.

    Community Schools rentals will be canceled.

    High school practices are canceled.

    High school basketball games are rescheduled to the same time tomorrow, 5:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. at Juneau Douglas High School.

    Conditions were better at 4:30 this morning when the initial call to hold school was made.

    The Juneau School District apologizes for the inconvenience.

    The district gathers information from JPD, City Roads Engineer, City Manager, DOT, First Student and the weather service to help make snow related decisions.
