JPD Excercises Patience, James Urbanec Arrested

The Juneau Police Department chose to leave the scene of a man brandishing a weapon, finding a more opportune time for arrest.

On Thursday, February 1st , two JPD officers attempted to contact James Urbanec, a 24 year old Juneau resident outside his home on Tongass Boulevard in relation to an outstanding warrant. Mr. Urbanec allegedly showed them a handgun and then locked himself inside his home. The Juneau Police Department sent out additional units to secure the area, and they remained there over the course of three hours. They returned on Friday and at 5:12pm, and Mr. Urbanec was spotted near the Mendenhall mall leaving on foot and was picked up about 20 minutes later. He was arrested on two counts of assaulting an officer, one count of resisting arrest, a previous charge of endangerment, and failing to appear for a change of plea hearing. Mr Urbanec is currently being held at Lemon Creek Correctional Facility.

Scott Jensen of Lyle and Jensen's Home Furniture, who witnessed the incident, wanted to extend his gratitude to the Juneau Police Department for their swift response.
