JEDC Present Juneau Satisfaction Survey Results

Juneau, AK (KINY) - The Juneau Economic Development Council presented their findings of a survey that took a look at visitors, residents, and for the first time legislators and their staff. The survey was done during the past Legislative Session.

Brian Holst, the Executive Director of the JEDC was stopped by our own Chuck Geiger, where he explained some of the findings.

"There are some positives and some things that we learned that is going to help our community. We know that people enjoy downtown Juneau. Our visitors spread throughout the community, a lot of our visitors during the Legislative Session which was when the survey was done, and they enjoy the accommodations (we've seen improvements on that) and they enjoy the walkability of downtown, which is wonderful to see."

Despite those positive insights into people either in or coming into Juneau, there are some areas of opportunity for the city.

"Safety, which has not been an issue in previous years, was an issue. About 10-15% of respondents were commenting that either they didn't feel safe when they were downtown or the cleanliness of downtown didn't meet their expectations."

"Weather is also important, we took the survey in February and March and we had a lot of snow. How well were we cleaning up the snow during those times? Sometimes we're not great about what our dogs leave behind either."

"Those are the sort of comments we received."

Holst says that data pulled from these sorts of studies can help make Juneau the best Capital City that it can be.
