Inter-Island Ferry shut down until June 11

Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - A catastrophic propulsion system failure on the M/V Prince of Wales shut down the service between Ketchikan and Prince of Wales Island on May 22.

The ferry was placed into inactive status until parts and technicians can make the necessary repairs.

Another vessel, the M/V Stikine has been waiting for repairs for the past month.

Officials said the repairs have been hampered by the inability of technicians to travel to and from the lower 48

The system plans to increase service to five days a week once the ferries return to service.

The Stikine is scheduled to be back on the water on June 11th.

Sailings will be on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
