Injured Yukon Quest Racer Medevaced

Juneau, AK (KINY) - A racer in the Yukon Quest dogsled race had to be medevaced early this morning due to injuries.

    According to dispatch reports,

On Wednesday evening, State Troopers were alert to a musher that was in need of medical attention by Yukon Quest staff. Staff had located the musher, Jason Campeau (43-years-old from Canada), and got him to a warm cabin where they requested a medevac.

The Rescue Coordination Center initially was unable to find that cabin and had to return to base due to low fuel; they launched from Ft. Wainwright. The next day around 10am, RCC resumed the mission and found Campeau around 1pm. Using an Army helicopter, they were able to transport the musher to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
