Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Assembly District 1 Incumbent Alicia Hughes-Skandijs is hoping for a three-year term on the Assembly after serving two, one-year terms.
She was asked on Action Line about her desire to continue her service on the local governing body.
Hughes-Skandijs said she truly enjoys serving on the Assembly. She considers the current body a wonderful team that is a joy to work with. In addition, she considers it an honor to serve the community.
With everything going on with the pandemic and all the decisions and all the stresses Hughes-Skandijs said it would seem crazy to her if she didn't run as someone who has the experience and knows the issues. "It felt like I absolutely needed to stay because if I didn't run it would be like walking out when the city and my community needed me the most. I really felt we really needed that continuity and that experience."
Hughes-Skandijs is facing a challenge to her re-election bid from Kenny Solomon-Gross. She said she was a bit surprised when Solomon-Gross threw his hat into the ring.
