House passes education bill

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The measure covers two years but is also tied to a second bill that involves the permanent fund.

An additional $30 million would be included in the education budget.  This would depend upon a separate bill supported by the Senate that would establish structured draws from the Alaska Permanent Fund to help balance the budget.

The house majority have resisted passage of the permanent fund bill thus far.  The majority has supported a broader plan with new taxes to handle the budget deficit.
