House floor session recessed after some members arrived without masks

Alaska State House of Representatives Speaker Louise Stutes

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The State House session Monday) short-circuited before it was even four minutes old.

Speaker Louise Stutes told the members, "As you all know by the email you received today there is a masking requirement while you are in the chamber.  We have members that  have chosen  not to comply with that policy and so until they choose to comply with that policy the House will stand in recess."

Stutes says the House is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak, with several members testing positive in recent days.

And then her gavel came down.  The session resumed briefly after one p.m. when the speaker adjourned the session for the day.

A floor session is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
