Hit and Run Fatality in Sitka

    Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - The Sitka Police Department received a report of a hit and run between a motor vehicle and bicyclist On Monday at approximately 6:15 AM.

    The cyclist, a 20-year-old Terry Carlson Jr, was transported to Mount Edgecumbe Medical Center and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

    Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored Jeep swerving in the outbound lane of the 2600 block of Halibut Point Road and striking the bicyclist, which then caused the vehicle to be spun around so its direction of travel was then inbound.

    The vehicle then drove off, leaving the cyclist laying on the side of the roadway.

    Officers were able to determine the make of the vehicle from debris at the crash site and located the vehicle that had damage consistent with a collision.

    Next of kin has been notified.
