Heavy snow in Juneau's forecast for New Year's Eve and Day

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A winter storm warning has been issued for Juneau and the surrounding area, and for very good reason, according to Meteorologist Kayla Tinker, who says a pretty significant winter storm is coming our way.

"Snowfall ranges between six to 18 inches here in Juneau.  It doesn't look like there will be that much difference between Douglas, downtown and the Valley.  It's looking close to about the higher end of that and the snow will come in starting Friday morning through the day Friday and into Saturday with heaviest amounts Friday night which is New Year's Eve."

The winter storm warning is in effect from nine Friday morning through Noon Saturday.

About thirty inches of snow has been recorded at Juneau's Airport through midnight Wednesday.  Tinker believes the record for the month is about double that amount.
