Health and Social Services to be split in two as of July 1

    Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The current Department of Health and Social Services will be reorganized effective July 1.

Governor Dunleavy made that announcement today (Monday) since the Legislature did not act to disapprove his Executive Order 121 by the 60th day of the session.

As of the beginning of the new fiscal year there will be a Department of Health and a Department of Family Community Services.

The Governor said during a press conference that the purpose of the reorganization is to get better outcomes.

Commissioner Adam Crum said the reorganization was designed to not disrupt services to beneficiaries or payments to providers.
