    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Monday's holiday in Alaska commemorates the signing of the Alaska Purchase treaty on March 30, 1867. The day is marked on the last Monday of March.

    It is named for then Secretary of State William Seward who negotiated the purchase from Russia.

    State and local government offices are closed. Federal offices are open.  Juneau schools will operate as normal.
