Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Dr. Al Gross conceded his defeat to incumbent U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan today.

Sullivan led by over 43,000 votes on Thursday as absentee ballots continue to be counted.

Gross said he was incredibly proud of the campaign he ran and knew he would be an underdog from the start.

"We ran a strong campaign and raised important issues that deserved to be heard," he added.

Gross thanked his family, supporters, volunteers, and staff for all the work they put into his candidacy.

"I also want to congratulate Dan Sullivan on his victory.  Even though we have passionate policy disagreements on what is best for Alaska, what is important now is that all Alaskans come together after a free and fair election."

Gross said he would continue to work in any way he can to serve the state.
