Juneau, ALASKA (KINY) –There’s praise for the Legislature from Governor Bill Walker on passage of a bill that ends cash payments to oil companies.
Governor Walker commented during a press conference Monday afternoon that the legislature’s action is a meaningful step to help shore up the state’s financial situation. He called the cash payments “unaffordable.”
The Governor reiterated that the work is not yet finished. He urged lawmakers to continue work on a complete fiscal plan. Missing at this point is a broad based tax which the Senate Majority has balked at approving.
Walker said previously he is prepared to lawmakers back into special session for the third time once they reach a deal on the capital budget.
