Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - Governor Mike Dunleavy and Sitka Senator Bert Stedman unveiled an 18-month plan for the Alaska Marine Highway System to leaders from Ketchikan, Saxman, and Metlakatla this week. Over $76 million in federal grant funding will be used in this plan
The plan which is still subject to legislative approval, would put $25 million towards six months of forward funding and $50 million towards a year's worth of offsetting receipts. The offsetting would go into the marine highway stabilization fund.
Governor Dunleavy says that they've always wanted to stabilize, modernize, and sustain the AMHS to avoid yearly ups and downs.
