Gov. Dunleavy signs Ashley Johnson Barr Day into law

    Gov. Dunleavy signs SB 101 into law on Thursday, March 12.

    Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - Gov. Mike Dunleavy signed Senate Bill 101 into law on Thursday, establishing March 12 as Ashley Johnson Barr Day.

    Barr was murdered in Kotzebue in the summer of 2018.

    A Kotzebue man, 41-year-old Peter Wilson, faces charges of Murder in the First Degree, Kidnapping, Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the First Degree, and Tampering with Evidence.

    Troopers, the FBI, Kotzebue PD, and the Northwest Arctic Borough helped in the search.

    The bill was sponsored by Sen. Donny Olson of Golovin.
