Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Coronavirus has captured another annual event in Juneau.
Jerry Harmon, Juneau Gold Rush Commission President announced they had made the difficult decision to cancel the annual event that was scheduled for June 20-21.
They listed safety concerns as the main reason.
"We very much regret the inconvenience this cancellation may cause and are deeply disappointed that the event cannot be held as planned," he added.
Harmon said mining has always been an industry that has put safety first.
He went on to state that cancellation of the mass gatherings is the only responsible decision.
The purpose of the event is to inform people about mining and logging, and to bring to life the past, present, and future of mining and logging in Alaska.
