Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Girl Scout Troop 4077 would like to raise $2,500 to bring cookies to the crew of the Westerdam.

The effort is called Spread Cookie Kindness in Juneau.

Jenny Fremlin, Troop leader, said they are hopeful of reaching the goal.

"So far the response has been pretty good.  We are hoping to get every crew member a box.  All of the variety's of cookies in town."

She added that the community should try to welcome the crew.

"We are trying to bring kindness to a crew that has been trapped on a ship for a month.  We are trying to show them some welcoming spirit."

Her daughter, Farrah Fremlin, 10, said it was a good way to help the crew and welcome them to Juneau.

"Most people are donating something and some just walk away with the flyer.  It is kind of sad that they have to stay here but it's good because they get to have girl scout cookies."

Katy Hieb, another girl scout, said the effort will pay off, "The crew of the Westerdam will be great and happy and it's for a good cause.  I feel like all the girls are working together to achieve a goal and are going through with our plan."

She said the scouts are working together to make the world a better place.

The collection team will have a table at Fred Meyer Stores this Saturday, March 14 from 10 am until 2 pm.
