Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Another candidate was featured on a special edition of Action Line Wednesday.
Amber Frommherz is director of Tribal Services and Outreach for the Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority. She explained why she is running. "I think this is a new realm serving in the education field for me.
When asked why she was running, Frommherz said that this is a new realm serving in the field of education for her. After pursuing a higher education and earning a graduate degree, she started working for Tlingit-Haida Central Council's Head Start program as a lead teacher, coordinator, and then became the director and due to family reasons had to leave.
"The timing is right," she said. "There's an open seat on the school board. It's a new realm for me to learn, grow and serve the community of Juneau and make an impact on my student's school." Frommherz has three children in the Juneau public school system.
She joined the Navy in order to capitalize on the benefits offered veterans to obtain an education. She served in the Navy from 1999 to 2005.
She vows to communicate with those who are interested in the school district.
Frommherz said she will work to balance COVID-19 mitigation efforts that keep children learning while keeping them safe.
She wants to continue to support social and emotional literacy for students and staff.
Frommherz wants to ensure continued support for culturally responsive teaching in partnership with local cultural heritage
She also said that he wants to learn about and support the district's career technical education program.
