Friends of the Flags Delay Flag Installation to 2021

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - State flags will not be installed for the 2020 season because of construction and improvements planned on Egan Drive.

The two-year road project from 10th to Main is expected to be completed this year.

One completed, the poles will be refitted with new hardware to accommodate the flags.

Tourism Best Management Practices Coordinator Kirby Day said the project gets a lot of support from the community,  "We look forward to the 2021 season and restarting this community program."

The project manages the purchase and installation of flags that represent all 50 states.  Flags are purchased each year and then auctioned off at the end of the year to raise funds to replace them.

Travel Juneau is the administrative contact for the program. To donate, please send a check payable to Friends of the Flags and mail the donation at 800 Glacier Avenue, Ste. 201, Juneau, AK 99801.
