Former House Speaker Gail Phillips passes

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Former Speaker of the Alaska House of Representatives Ramona "Gail" Phillips has died at the age of 75 following a long struggle with cancer.

    She passed away Thursday morning, according to her family.

    Phillips served in the State House from 1991 to 2001 and as speaker from1995 to 1999.

    Governor Dunleavy will order U. S. and Alaska state flags to fly at half-staff in her honor on a date to be determined following consultation with the Phillips family.

    Phillips was born in Juneau on May 15, 1944.
