Flood warning issued for glacier area

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The National Weather Service expects the Mendenhall Glacier annual outburst sometime today.

    There is a flood warning in effect for the Mendenhall Lake area until Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

    Residents who live in the vicinity of the glacier and along the Mendenhall River are being asked to be ready to move.

    The weather service expects the river to crest at about 10.2 feet later today.

    At nine feet the water would cover Skaters Cabin Road and flow into the Mendenhall Campground.

    At 9.4 feet there would be minor flood along View Drive.

    At 10 feet the campground would be underwater in certain areas.
