Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for the Jordan Creek area Thursday at 6 a.m. and will last until 10 p.m.
Meteorologist Grant Smith at the National Weather Service said that one to one and a half inches of rain has been falling in the last 24 to 48 hours and so that's causing the rivers to rise as of 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
Smith said that the river was at 9.6 feet, and flood stage is at 9.7 feet.
The Weather Service is expecting another inch over the next 18 hours, and the river is expected to reach peak level before it goes down at 10 p.m. Thursday evening.
Smith said the heavy rain in the last day or so is causing the river to rise and is expected to continue to rise since another inch is going to fall Thursday.
