Fishermen charged with theft

    Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - A Sitka fishermen faces theft in the third-degree and interfering with commercial fishing gear charges after an investigation by Alaska Wildlife Troopers.

    Michael Knauss, 69, allegedly pulled another commercial fishermen's longline gear set for sablefish on October 8.

    Troopers said part of the gear was removed from the water and later returned to the victim.

    The victim lost fishing time, fish, and labor due to the theft, officials added.

    Knauss was scheduled to appear in District Court at Sitka to answer the charges.
