Fisherman cops plea on a number of charges

    Southeast community of Pelican

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A Pelican fisherman has agreed to plead guilty to six counts.

Sixty-seven-year-old James Steven Daniels pled guilty to three counts failing to obtain a fisheries business license and failing to submit fish tickets for 2018 to 2020.

Daniels was fined $30,000 with $18,000 suspended  He was ordered to pay applicable fisheries taxes for the commercial catch and placed on probation for two years.

The charges made last September 28 stem from an investigation by Alaska Wildlife Troopers.  Daniels operated a commercial troll vessel, the Pelican, on commercial fishing trips associated with Highliner Lodge in the Southeast community from 2017 to 2020.  The investigation revealed that he sold fish to clients directly without a fisheries business license and without completing fish tickets.
