Fisherman cited for crab gear violations

Excursion Inlet, Alaska (KINY) - Kory Versteeg, 36, of Petersburg, was on conditions of release in multiple cases when new violations were reported.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Sitka said Versteeg was charged with unlawful storage of commercial tanner crab gear and violation of conditions of release.

Troopers allege that Versteeg, left three crab pots in fishing condition inside the core area of Excursion Inlet on February 23.  This was after the commercial tanner crab fishery had closed in the area.

Versteeg was the operator and permit holder aboard the fishing vessel Confidence.  While on conditions of release he was not to commit crimes or violate fish and game regulations.

Troopers said Versteeg will be arraigned in District Court in Juneau at a later date.
