Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Despite a federal government decision not to move ahead, one group thinks the road can still happen.
Executive Director Denny Dewitt urged road supporters to not give up hope, "I would encourage folks to remember this is a process and it is not a process that is over. We have a long way to go. It set us back maybe a year or two but there is still hope for economic development in our community."
Dewitt said the issue could have an impact on the election of Alaska's next Governor in the fall, "We could have brought in federal dollars into our community to provide jobs during construction and economic development in the long term. I think it was a very short sighted decision. It was penny wise and pound foolish."
Dewitt said it is a major economic development issue. He said the Governor campaigned on economic development. "This is another instance where there has been a lot of talk but nothing happening."
