Fire department douses shed fire that spread to trees and home

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Capital City Fire Rescue responded to Island View Drive in the Mendenhall Valley early Wednesday afternoon for what was initially reported as a shed fire.

The call came in at around 12:40 from a neighbor who saw smoke.

Fire Marshall, Dan Jager says the fire spread from the shed to a boat in a plastic structure, and then to the home's wooden siding. There isn't a cost estimate yet, but the fire marshal says it could be up in the thousands of dollars.

Assistant Fire Chief Sam Russel said they were on scene for several hours.  He says there were no injuries, but the structure sustained significant damage to the roof and the second floor.

The house was insured and the cause remains under investigation.
