Fire, axe, highlight trooper related shooting

    North Pole, Alaska (KINY) Trying to serve a warrant for attempted murder, Troopers had to shoot the suspect to death when he came at them with an axe, authorities said.

    A dispatch from Alaska State Troopers said Garry Lawrence Jr, 36, was shot to death outside his residence.  Troopers had gone to the home on Hartzog Loop to serve an attempted murder warrant with a $500,00 bond.  It was related to felony domestic violence offenses.

    Troopers went on to report that after they made contact with the suspect a fire started in the residence.  It quickly engulfed the structure.   Troopers went on to report that Lawrence exited the structure and threatened troopers with an axe.  That is when he was fatally shot.

    The Alaska Bureau of Investigations and the Fairbanks General Investigative Unit are handling the investigation.  The troopers involved were placed on 72 hour administrative leave.
