Ferguson announces candidacy for District 40 House seat

Elizabeth Niiqsik Ferguson is running to replace outgoing Rep. John Lincoln.

Kotzebue, Alaska (KINY) - Former legislative aide Elizabeth Niiqsik Ferguson, of Kotzebue, has announced her candidacy for House District 40.

According to the Arctic Sounder newspaper, Ferguson has spent the last two sessions working in the office of current Rep. John Lincoln (D-Kotzebue), who recently told his constituency that he would not be seeking re-election in the fall, saying he needed to spend more time with his family.

She made the announcement in a social media post on Thursday.

Before moving to Juneau to work as an aide, she spent about four years working for the Northwest Arctic Borough.

Prior to that, she served as the Kotzebue Tribal Council's first youth representative.
