Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - On Friday the U.S. Department of Education announced the approval of Alaska's American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief plan and distributed remaining funds to the state.
The State Plan describes how Alaska plans to use the funds to safely reopen and sustain operation of schools and expand opportunity for students who need it most, particularly those most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stakeholder input guided the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development in creating the plan.
Alaska’s total allocation is around $358 million. Two-thirds of that was released in March.
With this approval, the U.S. Department of Education will be releasing the final $119 million.
