Fatal vehicle accident in Soldotna

    Soldotna, Alaska (KINY) - Alaska State Troopers were notified of a vehicle that had rolled over, early Saturday morning in Soldotna.

    When officers responded to the scene, three passengers were present. The driver had fled prior to the officers' arrival.

    One passenger, 27-year-old Samuel Helmuth of Idaho, was deceased. Next of kin have been notified. The other two passengers sustained minor injuries.

    Later in the morning, Troopers located the driver at his residence. 50-year-old David Casey was taken into custody on several charges, including murder in the second degree, two counts of assault in the third degree, DUI, and leaving the scene of a fatality accident.

    Casey was remanded at Wildwood Correctional Center.
