Experts in Juneau provding training on rescues from collapsed buildings

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - An Urban Search and Rescue Team is in Juneau providing training.

Assistant Capital City Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Ed  Quinto said on  Action Line Friday that  there are  two instructors from SPEC Rescue, a nationally known company from West Virginia.

The 80 hour, eight day  training is funded with a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Two members from the Anchorage Fire Department are also participating, according to Quinto.

He said the firefighters are learning how to deal with a structural collapse, how to stabilize a scene, and using the proper tools on how to extract victims from the rubble.
