Ester Woman succumbs to injuries from house fire

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - State authorities say no foul play is suspected in a house fire Saturday, the state's Deputy Fire Marshal reports that the fire likely originated from a wood stove.

Alaska State Troopers were notified at 8:30 pm Saturday night of a residential structure fire in the Ester area.

While Ester Volunteer Fire Department and other area fire crews were fighting the fire, they located 71-year-old Ester resident Amy Pohl unresponsive inside of the residence.

She was evacuated from the house, and crews attempted lifesaving efforts; however, Pohl succumbed to her injuries.

A Deputy Fire Marshal from the Alaska Department of Public Safety responded to investigate the origin and cause of the fire.

A preliminary investigation determined that the fire likely originated near a woodstove in the living room.

    The structure sustained significant damage.

No foul play is suspected at this time. Pohl’s next of kin have been notified, and her remains will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
