Embezzler gets prison time for stealing $500,000

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder announced that a Naknek woman has been sentenced for embezzling approximately $510,181 from Naknek Electric Association (NEA), an organization receiving federal funds.

Donna Vukich, 60, was sentenced to 34 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.  She pled guilty to theft concerning a program that receives federal funds and filing a false tax return.

The former General Manager of NEA used a company-owned credit account for unauthorized personal expenses.  These include travel, her daughter's college tuition, cash advances, and entertainment items for her, her family, and her friends.

Prosecutors allege she spent $51,000 at Norwegian Cruise Lines, $62,000 on Alaska Airlines Flights, and $16,000 at Little Creek Casino Hotel and Resort in Washington.

She was also convicted of not paying federal taxes owed that amount to $138,689.
