Electric rates to remain the same

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Alaska Electric Light & Power said they have received approval from the Regulatory Commission of Alaska on electric rates approved in 2016.

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska approved a stipulation in AEL&P’s most recent rate filing which makes permanent AEL&P’s interim rate increase of 3.86%.  This means customer rates will remain the same as they have been since November 23, 2016, when the interim rates first went into effect.  The increase request was primarily related to infrastructure investments, such as the new backup generation plant, which ensure AEL&P can provide reliable power to customers.

The stipulation was the result of negotiations between AEL&P and the Regulatory Affairs and Public Advocacy (RAPA) section of the Department of Law. This settlement between AEL&P and the public advocate’s office will allow AEL&P to recover costs for providing electric service to our customers as well as continue to provide a high level of service to our customers with responsible, reliable and renewable energy.

AEL&P has a dedicated staff available to help customers manage their electric bill, lower their usage, and connect with community resources for assistance.  For more information or questions about this order, please contact Debbie Driscoll at media@aelp.com or by phone 907.463.6302.

AEL&P’s last rate increase was in May of 2010.
