Houston, Texas (ABC) - Another record number of people filed for unemployment this week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Labor reported.
The report said 6.6 million Americans filed for benefits. That brings the total number to almost 15 million since the pandemic began.
Brian Greene, President and CEO of the Houston Food Bank, said the pandemic has led many to turn to them and other charities to make ends meet.
Greene said volunteers have tried to help people with the emotional toll this has taken, "This isn't just a need but also a horrible emotional experience for people having to do this for the first time."
He said the hardest part for volunteers is they can't embrace and comfort the people they are helping.
