Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - If health concerns are issue number 1, the economy is issue 1A, the Governor said during a briefing on COVID-19.
Gov. Dunleavy said he has had conversations with the President and Vice President about federal funds and also with the Federal Emergency Management Agency about a relief package for the virus.
Dunleavy also expects to send to the Alaska legislature a package of proposals to respond to the virus. He expects to begin discussions with lawmakers in the next few days.
Several lawmakers urged the state to consider an emergency funding package to help individuals with things like unemployment benefits and public assistance.
"We know there will be economic fallout and we know this will impact Alaskan business. We will focus on and work on this very diligently," Dunleavy added.
The President has promised his support to help airlines and the cruise industry.
