Dunleavy announces appointments to Fish and Game Boards

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Governor Mike Dunleavy announced appointments Monday to the Boards of Fish and Game.

    Reappointed to the Fish Board was Israel Payton of Wasilla who has lived a subsistence lifestyle and has served as an advisory committee member in the past.  

    New appointees include Marit Carlson-Van Dort, who is director of external affairs for Nana Regional Corporation; Gerad Godfrey of Eagle River, who grew up commercial fishing in the Kodiak fishery and served as Governor Walker's senior policy advisor on rural affairs; and retired Superior Court Judge Karl Johnstone of Anchorage, who served as a member of the board and its chair from 2008 to 2016.

    Johnstone and Carlson-Van Dort will take their seats immediately while Godfrey's appointment takes effect July 1.  

    Former Deputy Revenue Commissioner Jerry Burnett of Juneau was appointed to the Board of Game.  Also appointed to the Game Board was  Al Barrette of Fairbanks who is a big game guide, taxidermist and small business owner; and Orville Huntington of Huslia who served on the Fish Board from 2012 to 2019.  

    Burnett assumed his seat in February.  Barrette and Huntington will take their seats July 1.

    All must now be confirmed by the Legislature in a joint session which typically takes place during the end of the session.
