Drones could play role in fighting pandemic

    Washington, DC (ABC) - Some companies believe that new drone delivery methods could have a vital part to play to keep social distancing methods effective.

    The drones could be used to transport supplies and keep watch in a safe and effective way.

    The Federal Aviation Administration which regulates drones in US airspace said it has been flooded with requests for expanded drone operations to respond to COVID-19.

    Start-up companies like California drone maker Zipline have pushed to build a network of drones to deliver critical prescription drugs.

    The FAA said emergency authorizations to use drones should be limited to directly support governments, health or community officials.
