Driver sentenced in crash that claimed life

Klawock, Alaska (KINY) - George Huffine, 46, pled guilty to DUI charges in the death of Trinity Kriener in July 2018.

Huffine was sentenced to 360 days in jail and one-year probation.  315 days of jail time were suspended.

A charge of manslaughter was dismissed after a preliminary hearing.

District Attorney Timothy McGillicuddy said there was not sufficient evidence to provide that Huffine caused his passenger's death.

The original arrest report stated Kriener and Huffine were having an argument inside his 2005 Toyota Tundra when she jumped from the vehicle and was run over by the vehicle's rear tires.

The accident took place near mile marker 75 on Boundry Road in Naukati.

Huffine was also fined $1,500 by Superior Court Judge Jude Pate.

The case was investigated by Alaska State Troopers.
