Douglas, Alaska (KINY) - Due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no Fourth of July Parade in Douglas this year.

In a statement on Facebook, the Douglas Fourth of July Committee made the announcement on May 19.

"It is with sadness that the Douglas Fourth of July Committee announces the 2020 Douglas Parade and Fourth of July celebrations have been canceled as a public safety precaution against the spread of COVID-19... Please follow our [Facebook] page and events calendar for further details about future events. We will get through this and be together again. Stay safe, stay healthy, and take care of one another."

The Juneau Parade is put on by a separate organization and, as of March, the Juneau Parade has been cancelled.
