Docks and Harbors' proposed rate hike to go to public hearing

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ Docks and Harbors Board of Directors agreed during its meeting last night to send a couple of rate increase proposals out for public comment.

Port Director Carl Uchytil tells us that members agreed to advance the rate increase for the resident surcharge or liveaboard fee, as well as increases to the dockage charges.  Those charges pertain to visiting vessels at the intermediate vessel float, the cruise ship docks, and Statter Harbor breakwater, according to Uchytil.

He says they were given direction by the board to advertise the proposed rate changes and hold a public hearing at an appropriate time.

The liveaboard rate would increase by $69, double the current rate which hasn't been increased since 2004 and that's the last time the dockage charges were also increased.

Depending on the timing of the public hearing, the rate proposals could be back before the board for final action in time for its April meeting.
