Dimond football suspended for week

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) The Anchorage School District said police are investigating allegations of hazing and sexual misconduct with the football program.

The alleged incident took place during a field trip to Fairbanks this past weekend.  Superintendent of Schools Deena Bishop sent an email to all Dimond High School parents and staff Wednesday alerting them about her decision.

The game with Colony Friday has been canceled.

An email from the Superintendent read this way, ""I have suspended the football program at Dimond High School and we are working with the Anchorage Police Department to investigate," Bishop said in the email. "We have zero tolerance for any inappropriate behavior. Until our investigation is complete, I have no further comment. Student safety is always our number one concern."

A mother told KTUU TV news that several older players allegedly assaulted younger teammates during the overnight stay in Fairbanks.

Bishop declined to say if a disciplinary action had been taken against students, noting she couldn't release specific details because the students involved are minors.

Police confirmed the investigation, but declined to provide additional information.
