DHSS reports 5 new COVID-19 cases, 1 is in Juneau

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The daily report from the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services found the state added five new cases of COVID-19 on Friday morning.

That means a total of 430 cumulative cases, with 367 recovered.

The new cases are in Juneau (1), the Kenai Peninsula (2), and Anchorage (2).

Cumulatively, 33 people from Juneau have tested positive for COVID-19 since March; four cases are active and 29 of these individuals have recovered.

Alaska Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink reminds Alaskans, “the virus is still with us and… we should not ease up on the actions each of us can take to protect ourselves including: keeping six feet of distance from others, wearing a face covering when out in public, washing our hands frequently, and cleaning and disinfecting surfaces at home and work.”

There are 10 non-resident cases that are not counted toward Alaska's total.

Southeast Alaska now has 57 cases.
