Death at Sealing Cove Harbor in Sitka under investigation

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - An unattended death is under investigation by authorities in Sitka.

    Sitka police were notified by a caller at about 8:30 Thursday morning, they reported what appeared to be a pool of blood and gun on a float in Sealing Cove Harbor.

    Officers arrived on scene and upon investigation, located a deceased man caught in the rocks across from the float, on the Alice Loop side of the harbor.

    Emergency personnel were able to retrieve the man from the rocks and his body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner Office for an autopsy.

    The man has been identified as 66 year old Don Petro. Next of kin have been notified.

    Sitka police said the case is currently open and under investigation.
