Dead Body Recovered From Downtown Juneau Waters

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Juneau Police were investigating the report of a unresponsive person in the water.

    Capital City Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of Egan Drive across the street from the Prospector Hotel at 1:30 pm today.

    Police were at the scene and unavailable to provide further details.  Check back for updates.

    Update 4:15 pm

    Police officer Nick Garza said a pedestrian riding on the bicycle trail spotted the body in the water at about 1 pm.  He described the victim as a male in his early 50s.  The victim was identified as Ricardo Willard, 53 of Juneau.  The body was found floating about 50 feet from shore near the US Coast Guard Station at 345 Egan Drive.

    Garza said there were no signs of trauma or foul play.  An autopsy will be conducted.

    This death is still under investigation.
