Dam repairs planned

    Petersburg, Alaska (KINY) Work to repair the upper dam spillway will soon be underway.

    The Petersburg Assembly approved a near $220,000 contract with Reid Brothers Logging and Construction to do work on theUpper dam spillway.

    Utility Director Carl Hagerman called it a rehabilitation project, "The dam has been in place since the 1950s.  Lots of water has passed over the concrete in the past few decades.  A lot of erosion has occurred on the spillway.  The state has been inspecting the dam every three years.  It is an issue for them that we take care of the erosion."

    Utility Director Carl Hagerman said the project will take care of the erosion, "We will work on the surface to get down to solid concrete, put in rebar, and pour a new surface so the dam is repaired and operate as it should for the foreseeable future."
