Cycle Alaska P.E. is now offered in Kake

Kake, Alaska (KINY) - A program in Juneau that has seen more than 300 kids registered so far for Cycle Alaska P.E. has now been added in Kake.

Cycle Alaska P.E. is an effort to reward kids 17 and younger who spend time on bikes this fall.

The program began on August 24.

According to PeggyAnn and John McConnochie, the Kake School District reached out to the bike company on Thursday. The two say that they welcome other communities that might show interest in the program.

Each week the children are given prizes for achieving the goals of the program.

For children under eight years old, the goal is to ride bikes 45 minutes per week.  Those between the ages of nine and 15 are asked to ride at least 75 minutes per week.  The oldest kids are asked to ride two hours per week.

A grand prize of a bike valued at $399 will be given away to a lucky winner in October.

You can sign up by going to the Cycle Alaska website event page at CycleAK.com.
